There are the three primary types of solar systems:
Grid-Tied Solar System
Solar panels are installed and the energy generated is used to power your home or business. Excess energy produced by your solar panels is sent to the grid and you get credits. When no energy is generated by the panels, you draw power from the grid, using credit first.
Grid-Tied With Battery Back-Up
Solar panels are installed and the energy generated is used to power your property. When no energy is generated, you get power from your battery first, then if necessary, from the grid. Once your battery is full, you still send energy back to the grid and you get a credit.
Stand Alone (Off-Grid) Solar
Solar panels are installed and the energy generated is used to power your property and charge your battery. When no energy is generated, you'll get power from your battery. You are not tied to the grid and have complete energy independence.
Note: we currently do not offer Off-Grid solar installations.

But when the sun sets or the power grid fails, you need a backup to ensure your home’s critical systems and appliances keep running! Solar batteries can store the excess power your solar panels generate and provide “around the clock” protection from power outages. In addition, you’ll have greater freedom to make and store your own energy, and reduce your energy cost by “selling” excess power back to the utility company. Stored energy can even be used during peak hours to reduce energy bills. Solar batteries are available in a variety of capacities of up to 10 kWh and additional units can be added for additional capacity.

Federal Solar Tax Credit
ONLY AVAILABLE FOR HOMEOWNERS THROUGH 2022
Through 2032, the credit is 30% of the total installation cost for homeowners. Commercial installations are eligible for the 30% tax credit through 2024.
Net Metering
When you install solar panels on your roof, net metering laws allow residents and businesses to sell any excess power generated back onto the grid. This shows up as a credit on your electric bill, saving you money every month.
Tax Exemptions
To incentivize solar, states often allow solar systems to not have sales tax applied to the price. Also, increases in your home’s value are exempt from increases in corresponding property taxes.

According to Zillow, home's with solar are worth 4.1% (on average) more than those without. Traditionally, if your house's worth goes up, so do the property taxes. Unlike other improvements like new floors or paint jobs which may result in some unwanted tax hikes for homeowners, solar panels are free of any taxation in many states.

30% Tax Credit Available to Homeowners Through 2032
Federal Tax Credit Extended!
Homeowners in Massachusetts qualify for a 30% tax credit through 2032. Beginning in 2033, the tax credit will diminish to 26%, then 22% in 2034, before going away the following year.
Keep in mind that a tax credit works differently than a tax deduction. A credit means you’ll be directly refunded on your federal taxes for the qualified amount. For example, if you pay $20,000 for a 6kW solar system during the current tax year, you’ll be credited $6,000 on that year’s tax returns, bringing the true cost of your solar installation down to $14,000.
